Music culture has existed since the ancient time, the Stone Age. Music is important to humans as a form of emotional expression. It has always been involved in several activities of humankind, in our ceremonies, our lifestyles - to flirt, for instance - or even when we are unaware of it. All nations share this experience. Music is in everyone's nature. It's part of life. A universal language. We know that the sound of music travels through the air and that we need the air to breathe. So "breath is music" and "music is breath" are the sayings that compare the importance of music to that of our breath.
Our King is a musician; he always supports music in Thailand. He is the monarch of the state and has been fond of music for a long time. This makes him recognize its importance to our country and thus support the construction of the Bhumibol Sangkit Building at the College of Music. This helps boost the number of musical experts in Thailand and thus lay the foundation for Thai music. Music is sometimes called "a science of the cultured" because it always follows civilization.
I think the King is an artist by nature. He can convey his feelings through his songs. People compose or play music from their feelings, from the bottom of their hearts. Different people have different feelings when listening to His Majesty's music. Personally, I think his music sounds like the composer wants to share his feelings with the audience, so that they feel good just the way he does. I feel happy when listening to his beautiful songs too.
His compositions have a unique style. Most of them express feelings and illustrate the nature and surroundings, such as Yam Yen (Love at Sundown) and Sai Fon (Falling Rain). They help us unwind. Everybody can enjoy them. One song can be played in many styles, such as orchestra and jazz. And all versions sound good. They sound good for people of all ages and can be played by all bands. All the people who listen to them feel fresh and delighted.
As for his works of visual arts, such as paintings or photographs, I think they illustrate his nature, the nature of a person who cares about others more than himself. His works don't portray things the way he wants them to be, but just the way they are, from his viewpoint. The style of his works is just like his own caring character.
Moreover, I'm touched by his work in the rural areas, such as that involving education and natural disasters. When people are left with nothing after a disaster, the King goes and helps them. Sometimes only little things like food and clothes given by him can enormously improve the victims' morale. They are proud to receive his help.
The first thing the Thais can do for His Majesty is to be good people. When all of us do this, it will get rid of the society's problems and the overall situation will become better.
I hope he is healthy and stays with us as the center of unity forever.
